PRESENTATION OF THE COURSE
RUBIKA’s Digital Special Effects course is a specialisation of the 3D Animation course. It trains high-level technicians specialised in the realistic reproduction of visual effects.
Rich and demanding, the program puts students in conditions similar to those of a professional studio. The students discover, through practice, the production tools of an animation project integrating digital special effects. The final year is devoted to the production of a short animated film in teams, presented in front of a jury of professionals. This project allows students to put into practice the skills they have acquired during their training.
The goals of the course are :
- To learn to observe and reproduce reality
- To master the tools for creating digital special effects
- To develop an animation culture and a critical mind
- To understand the production chain of an animated film
- To produce all types of special effects for the cinema via dedicated and adapted professional software
- To acquire the working methods of a professional studio

ENTRANCE COMPETITION & ADMISSIONS
Accessible at the bachelor’s level, the FX-VFX Special Effects course is designed for those passionate about special effects and 3D image creation. Students are selected through a competitive examination, a motivational interview, and a review of their portfolio (file of personal creations).
The ideal baccalaureate to integrate a course in 3D Animation is the STD2A (Sciences and Technologies of Design and Applied Arts) baccalaureate. However, our programs are open to all baccalaureate holders, regardless of their speciality. In some cases, a year of preparatory classes may be useful to ensure the fundamentals.

The special effects sector is both dynamic and job-creating. With a long tradition, France now plays a major role in digital effects. According to a study by the National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC), nearly 4,000 people were working in this field in 2017, an increase of 17% (556 jobs) in one year. Young French graduates are highly sought after by international studios, particularly in Montreal where the employment sector provides jobs for over 36,500 people.
