THE PRODUCT DESIGN COURSE

The Product Design course at the RUBIKA School of Design trains project managers in charge of the design process at both the operational and strategic levels.

Under the pedagogical guidance of working professionals, the course prepares students for the operational mastery of industrial design. Students learn to conduct user-centred design projects: analysis of the project and the end consumer, drafting of specifications, creativity phase, selection of the preliminary development project, communication, etc. By the end of the course, students have completed 4 collective projects with companies, including 2 as managers.

The objectives of the course are :

  • To develop a designer culture and expertise
  • To analyse (and write) a creative brief
  • Acquire a project design methodology
  • Master the tools of representation and 3D animation
  • Propose innovative solutions with high added value
  • Prototype solutions and test them to validate their viability

The course includes 3 periods of internship and concludes with a semester of pre-employment. The majority of internships take place abroad, in a multitude of industrial or craft sectors: household appliances, electronic products, robotics, watchmaking, jewellery, sports equipment, tools, tableware, furniture, and many others…

The exam consists of a general and specialised culture test, two creativity tests and an oral motivation test where the candidate supports his/her file with the help of his/her portfolio. The deadline for registration for the exam is midnight on 13 April 2022. If your application is accepted, you will have to fill in your application form within the time limit announced in the e-mail (about two weeks), otherwise your place will be offered to a candidate placed on the waiting list.

The ideal way to enter a higher education course in Product Design is to have a general baccalaureate with a scientific and technical component (formerly SSI) or an STD2A baccalaureate. However, we open our courses to all baccalaureate holders, regardless of their baccalaureate speciality. In some cases, a year of preparatory classes may be useful to ensure the fundamentals.
